Welcome to my site. I invite you to explore my writing and become a fan.
I received a grant from the Nevada Arts Council to write The Monster on Top of the Bed which has received excellent reviews.
I’m an award-winning author of short stories and a published poet. I have a professional history of writing on telecommunications topics.
I am an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Illustrators and the 12 x 12 Challenge.
My Artistic Goal
My artistic goal is to entertain and empower children (and adults) with my work. That’s a tall order because children have zero tolerance for work that does not entertain them. (Adults will often persevere for a while. Kids just put the book down.)
I’m proud of the fact that kids are still reading my book, The Monster on Top of the Bed, years after their parents bought it for them.
My Five-Year Goal
My goal for the next five years is to write at least two bestselling picture books.
Why I Will Achieve My Goals
Perhaps the most important reason that I will achieve this goal is that I read many picture books. When I read a book that excites me, it fires off many ideas, and the desire to emulate the book’s style to create an entirely different work.
I also have invested many years in honing writing skills and in building a community of accomplished writers who critique my writing. The result is that I quickly find ways to improve a manuscript or know to move on to another project.
I have attended many professional workshops and seminars (regional and national) including SCBWI conferences, Thrillerfest, and The SanFrancisco Writers Conference, included one of my short stories in its anthology, Building Bridges.
Mobius, the Poetry Magazine has published my poetry in four volumes.
My award-winning children’s picture book, The Monster on Top of the Bed, comes in a variety of different formats and editions. It’s even available in a mini-book that fits into a CD case. The CD reads the book, page-by-page, in Spanish, English, and Italian. You can read many great reviews of it on Goodreads.com, Amazon.com, and blog sites.
I conduct workshops for children in schools, bookstores, and libraries. I motivate them to write poetry and prose. I also create web-based resources such as http://poemsbypets.weebly.com/ and video tutorials. Interaction with readers assures me that my writing interests kids.
I wrote my second children’s book, The Monster on Top of the Bed, to share some of my most cherished values with a grandchild-to-be. It helped many children get over their bedtime fears, and I felt satisfied. I had left a little bit of me, just in case I died before having a grandchild. Having achieved that goal, I stopped. However…
I recently became a grandfather, and I’ve become extremely interested in writing books that encourage children to discover some of my values and life lessons.
I’m looking forward to your reading and enjoying my books.
If you happen to be interested in reading some of the manuscripts before publication, you can help me to refine the book.
You Can Help Me Reach My Goals

I’ve been writing books, magazine articles, poetry and plays since 1978. My first book, Increasing Retail Sales via the Phone was published in by the National Retail Merchants Association. I wrote a column, “Telecommunications Insights,” for The Office magazine for over five years.
I started writing when I was 16 years old
I was the editor of a high-school fraternity’s newsletter, The Freemark Observer, for the Joan Freemark chapter of AZA. At a time when newsletters were typically mimeographed (which required “cutting” a stencil using a manual typewriter), I used a spirit duplicator to produce a newsletter in a variety of colors–purple, black, green and red.
I use technology to engage imagination
I’m still using cutting edge technology, as you can tell by looking at the Kindle version of some of my books. Some have hyperlinks that encourage children to explore photographs taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. Others feature words that pop-up when children tap the page. If you have the right type of book reader, you can even get the book to read the story to you.
I wrote six books on telecommunications cost control and integrity-based telemarketing. A small press, Add-Effect Associates Press, published them. Businesses in 19 countries purchased my books at an average price of $99. Most of these books are out of print now, but you can still get a copy of some of them on Amazon. Interestingly, some of them are now selling for several hundred dollars. (I should have kept more copies.)
Let’s enjoy many pleasant journeys together.
